“Meron pa palang maabot ang dalawang piso,” the blogger said in the Tiktok video which has now garnered more than 523,000+ likes and 3,700+ comments, as of writing.

Mang Romy,” known locally by his customers, began serving porridge in 1974.

The old businessman shared, “May nagtanong sa akin, ‘Magkano po ang lugaw niyo?’ Sabi ko, ‘dalawang piso.’ Sumagot ng, ‘Eh bakit ang mura?’”

“Sabi ko, ‘Eh subukan niyo. Kapag ‘di niyo nagustuhan, iwanan niyo na dahil talagang dalawang piso. Wala ng halaga ‘yung dalawang piso ngayon.’” Mang Romy explained.

When asked if he still makes money with his P2 lugaw, Mang Romy responded that he does, but he doesn’t want to raise his pricing. He claimed to be aware of the fact that many people don’t make enough money, and he wanted his lugawan to provide them with reasonable food.

THROUGH THE YEARS

Mang Romy’s 2 pesos lugaw rise to fame on the internet was not new.

His LUGAW “porridge” shop had a Facebook fan group created in 2010 to “support and advertise.”

It promotes the P2 porridge and its additional tokwa’t baboy through a multitude of posts, and occasionally even through memes.
There are currently 8,422 fans of the page

In 2019, Mang Romy’s Lugawan was highlighted on One Valenzuela, another Facebook page, via a picture of Mang Romy’s store.
